Target group

People with mental health problems who have medium to high support needs. May be able to accept those who have both mental health and substance misuse problems.

Will not accept

Those who do not wish to participate in the keywork and rehabilitation programmes of the project. People who are current drug users.

Referral agencies

Accept referrals from Health Authorities and Social Services, or from other sources if funding is available and agreed by referrer.

Referral procedure

Agency referrals only. Phone (8am-11pm daily). Application form. Require social and psychiatric reports. Informal visit followed by assessment interview at the project. Must have Health or Social Services funding. Trial period (normally 3 months but can vary).

Support services

14 support staff, sleep-in cover. Keywork system with weekly meetings. Care plans with agreed outcomes reviewed every 3 months, outside agencies attend care planning meetings. Project run as a therapeutic community. Residents have individual rehabilitation programmes which include group work, practical support and skills development. Computer training facilities.

Health services

Access to health and medical professionals as required.

Access to move-on

Project has cluster flats which residents can live in to further develop their independent living skills prior to move-on. Move-on options are explored in conjunction with resident's care manager and/or social worker.

House rules and tenure

No alcohol allowed on premises. Designated smoking room. Must attend house meetings and partake in household tasks. Licence agreement.

Own key, no access restrictions unless specified in an individual contract.

Yes, until 11pm. Overnight guests with staff permission only.

Weekly residents' meetings attended by project staff. Annual feedback survey.

2 Care's St George's House is a 23 bedspace psychiatric rehabilitation project for people with mental health needs. The project is run as a therapeutic community and residents are expected to participate in the life of the project by attending weekly community meetings and participating in domestic tasks. There is an on-site psycho-education reference room for residents' use.
